LETTERS TO THE GRANDMASTER
To
start things off I would like to say that before training with Grandmaster
Caprio I already had an idea about what I wanted to do with my life.
What Grandmaster Caprio has done for me that I have not done before is
suggest that I sit down and seriously think about my future and get it on paper
so I can see where I am headed. Now
I have an idea of exactly what I am looking for and the steps I must take
towards achieving my long-term goal.
Since last year many of my
short-term goals have come through for me.
My first goal I consider my foundation goal because it helped me clear my
mind and my other goals would have been a lot harder to achieve.
That goal was my weekday beer drinking.
It affected me to the point where I was not paying attention at work,
coming in hung over, spending all of my money, and just not taking myself
seriously. Grandmaster Caprio has taught me to
shape
up and helped me realize that my future would be very gray for me.
I pushed myself to do many
positive things. If there is a
challenge that I do not understand I immediately get involved instead of pushing
it off onto someone else. I was
also satisfied with the tool collection I had because I am only an apprentice
and didn’t think I needed anything else.
One positive step that I took last month was buying a new selection of
electrical tools. Numerous amounts
of times I would be with a mechanic that didn’t have the right tool for the
job, but I did because I accomplished a goal.
I have been motivated
throughout the year because I have set new goals that have really helped me to
get my act together. I looked for
some other sources of job security and took a shot to get my truck-driving
license. I studied very hard and
passed the test. Now I am one of
the three people out of twenty that can drive the special truck.
I have found the incentive to
approach my foreman with a request to start riding scaffolds and chairs for
excessive heights to get the experience. As
of last month, I have been on four scaffold jobs and one chair job compared to
nothing at all before this approach.
I have also bought an
electrical reference book where I taught myself how to tie different kinds of
knots, hand signals for cranes, how to layout a neon diagram, and more.
I introduced this book to a friend and he liked it so much that he
recommended it to someone else.
The goals I wish to accomplish
in the next year are to begin with, making strides to become a junior mechanic.
The steps I will have to take are similar to my past goals like scaffold
riding, chair riding, and getting more comfortable hanging from excessive
heights. I will try to start learning how to bend pipe to fit exact
measurements.
Also the electrical school I
inquired about is not accepting anyone new due to the busy schedule of the
foreman who ran it. I will have to
take my own route and inquire about my union paying for a school outside the
division where I can learn more about the trade. Following through on this
will, I feel will bring me closer to my long term goals.
