LETTERS TO THE GRANDMASTER
I am fairly happy with
the way that I progressed last year. For
the most part, the goals that I set, I did achieve, although it did open my eyes
to areas of needed improvement. I did finally learn that what I put my mind to,
I can definitely achieve, but this is not enough.
I have learned to set up the big picture, but I am very weak at setting
up the smaller specifics needed to make the big picture.
I felt that as long as I set up the puzzle, everything else would just
fall in by itself. I must learn to
follow everything through or “close the deal”.
No one or nothing is going to do anything for me anymore.
As I said, the goals that I did set, I did achieve such as, getting out
of debt, setting up a mid range goal (getting a house), and a long term goal.
These however were not that challenging and were the most part for the
short term. The goals that I will
achieve next year will be more specific as well as focused on the long term
(living day by day won’t cut it).
What I want to do for the rest of my life is teach the martial arts and
have my own school. The first thing I need to do this year, is keep consistently
progressing with my training. I
must make a daily effort to get better. I realize I don’t have any more time
to waste, (like I have) and I can’t progress and stop anymore. It must be the
case where I don’t think I have learned enough or hide behind the excuse that
I believe that I can’t do something. This
will help me in two main ways. The first will be that it will give me the
credentials I’ll need to teach as well as the fact that everything in my life
seems to be smoother when I am giving it 100%.
Another goal for next year will be to have my job situation established.
I have been talking to my boss and he has told me that I will be working by the
end of February or the beginning of March. The beginning of March has become my
deadline with him. If something hasn’t happened by this time I am going to
blow him off, look for employment elsewhere (a short term goal for right now is
to develop two back up plans in case this one doesn’t work out).
My main goal for next year is a strong savings plan with very little
debt. I want to continue the savings plan I have started and make
sure I do not waiver from it. This
is very important to me because by the year after next, I want to be able to buy
my own house. The only way I can do
this is to save as much as I can while spending for only the things that I
really need.
All of this sounds and
looks good but the key for me is to stop lying to myself and become more focused
and specific (then I have been) about what I want and more importantly about how
to get it. I can’t sit back and
expect things to just come to me. If nothing else, the one think I learned and want to improve
on is that if I want something bad enough, I do have the ability to achieve it,
but that it doesn’t come without a price.
