LETTERS TO THE GRANDMASTER
Since we started writing down our goals I have only found one pattern repeating itself. The other goals were either correcting defects in my character or I was successful in completing these goals. To this day I will be chipping away at the character defects.
The one goal
that seemed to repeat itself was the money management goal.
Although it took longer than expected I did accomplish the goal and my
financial stability is at hand. The
next step is maintenance and saving my money.
In the new
year, I will accomplish one part of my long-term goals.
This part is to own and operate my first Martial Arts school.
By June or July of this year, I will have saved enough money to be
invested into the first of a possible chain of schools.
I will begin this quest on February 1st of this year.
To start I will save $250.00 a week.
My first short
term goal for the end of this year is to achieve my black belt no matter how
difficult it might be. My second
goal is to take more classes at college to chip away at getting my degree.
By owning and
operating a Martial Arts school, this will create a backbone for me financially.
This, and a degree from school, teaching semi-private Martial Arts
lessons, and working with my father as a painter on the side, will always give
me options when it comes to making money. By
using these resources I have around me I will be able to put money down for my
first home. This would be the
second part of my long-term goal.
On a personal
level I have set several short-term goals for the New Year.
To quit smoking, eat correctly, and live the life of a warrior as much as
I possibly can. Another is to
keep an open mind to everything around me and to live my every minute Zen.
That in itself is a handful. The
last of my short-term goals is to learn the Black Belt form to the best of my
ability. These accomplishments will
be with me to the end of time.
Until now I
have written what I expect to accomplish this year. Now I will go back and analyze my goals from last year.
In the beginning, I saw that I was way too general with my goals and had
no direction. As time went on, I
was focused on a variety of different goals including saving money, correcting
character defects, and following a daily routine.
I see now that I need to follow through a lot more and work on only one
goal at a time. I am a wandering
generality, not a meaningful specific. I
need to set one goal and put my nose to the grindstone.
Only when I complete the first goal, can I set another goal. By doing this, I can be sure to accomplish every goal I set
for myself.
This coming
year is going to be a big year for me.
With the money I have earned and saved, I intend to open my first Martial
Arts school, which will be a big step in accomplishing my long-term goals.
With this success in mind I can also focus on completing my college
degree. With these two things, I
will be half way to where I want to be in my life.
The key
ingredients for me to be successful are motivation, consistence, and
persistence. Using these tools I
believe I cannot fail.
